Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the ingredients and preparation method for the most popular dish on our menu, the Roasted Duck with Cherry Port Wine Sauce?

Sure! Here's the recipe for our popular Roasted Duck with Cherry Port Wine Sauce.
Ingredients:
- 1 whole duck (6-7 pounds)
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup dried tart cherries
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups port wine
- 1 cup chicken or duck broth
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Remove the neck and giblets from inside the duck cavity. Rinse the duck with cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Season it with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, inside and out. Trim any excess fat.
3. In a large roasting pan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Place the duck breast-side down in the hot pan and cook until the skin is golden brown, about 5 minutes. Flip the duck onto its side and brown for another 5 minutes, then flip again onto the other side and brown for another 5 minutes.
4. Transfer the roasting pan to the preheated oven and roast the duck for 2 hours or until an internal thermometer registers 165°F (74°C) when inserted into the thickest part of the thigh. Remove from the oven, cover with foil, and let rest for at least 10 minutes before carving.
5. While the duck is roasting, prepare the cherry port wine sauce. In a medium saucepan, combine the dried tart cherries, chopped onion, minced garlic, port wine, and chicken or duck broth. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6. In a small bowl, mix together 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water until dissolved. Gradually add this mixture to the saucepan, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens slightly. Cook for another 5-10 minutes, then remove from heat and set aside.
7. To serve, carve the duck into slices and arrange on a platter. Drizzle with some of the cherry port wine sauce and garnish with chopped fresh parsley. Enjoy!

What are the specialty dishes on your menu and what ingredients or cooking techniques set them apart from other restaurants in Geelong?

Our specialty dishes at The Wandering Chef are unique and carefully crafted to showcase local, seasonal produce and our passion for culinary innovation. Some of our standout dishes include:
1. Heirloom Tomato & Burrata Salad: This dish features the freshest heirloom tomatoes from local farms, paired with creamy burrata cheese and a tangy balsamic glaze. The presentation is stunning, with each component carefully arranged to enhance flavors and textures.
2. Grilled Octopus: Our grilled octopus is tender and flavorful, thanks to a slow-cooking process that involves braising in aromatic spices and herbs. We then char it on the grill to give it a delicious smoky flavor. It's served with a zesty chimichurri sauce made from fresh parsley, garlic, and chili peppers.
3. Slow-Cooked Lamb Shank: This dish is all about comfort food done right. We slow-cook our lamb shanks for hours until they fall off the bone, then finish them with a rich red wine reduction. The result is meltingly tender meat that practically falls apart when you fork it.
4. Housemade Ricotta Gnocchi: Our gnocchi are made from scratch using fresh ricotta cheese and delicate semolina flour. They're light and fluffy, with a perfect chewiness. We serve them with a buttery sage brown butter sauce that perfectly complements the creamy gnocchi.
5. Chocolate Tart: For dessert, our chocolate tart is an absolute must-try. It features a decadent dark chocolate ganache filling encased in a crisp, flaky tart shell. We top it with fresh whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder for the ultimate indulgence.

Last summer, my partner and I visited Mei Lin Chinese Restaurant located at 169 Malop St, Geelong VIc 3220, Australia, with high expectations of having a great dining experience. We were excited because we had heard so many good things about this restaurant from our friends, but unfortunately, our visit did not meet those expectations.
Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed that there was limited seating and the atmosphere felt quite uncomfortable for us as diners. The tables were close together, making it difficult to enjoy a private conversation without overhearing other customers' conversations. Additionally, the chairs seemed uncomfortable as they were not designed to provide proper back support or cushioning.
While we did enjoy our meal, which was well-cooked and had a good balance of flavors, the overall experience was overshadowed by the lack of comfort in the dining area. In comparison to other Chinese restaurants in Geelong, Mei Ling's atmosphere falls short, particularly when considering its popularity among locals.
In conclusion, while Mei Ling Chiense Restaurant offers delicious food, it is let down by its limited seating and uncomfortable environment. I would recommend this restaurant for takeout or delivery options but may not suggest dining in due to the subpar experience we had. There are other Chinese restaurants in Geelong that offer a more enjoyable ambiance and similar quality of food.

Dear Editor,

I am writing to provide a contrasting opinion on Mei Ling Chinese Restaurant, which was recently reviewed by Finn Bauer. While it is true that the restaurant's seating arrangement and chair comfort could use improvement, I believe that Mei Ling's overall dining experience is exceptional, making it one of the best Chinese restaurants in Geelong. Firstly, the food at Mei Ling is absolutely delicious. The chef's mastery of traditional Chinese cuisine is evident in every dish served. The flavors are well-balanced, and every ingredient is fresh and carefully chosen. Our favorite dishes include the Szechuan Chicken, which has the perfect amount of spice without being overly hot, and the Steamed Fish, which is cooked to perfection with a delicate flavor that complements the other dishes perfectly. Secondly, the service at Mei Ling is exceptional. The staff is friendly, attentive, and efficient, ensuring that our orders are served promptly and with care. They provide excellent recommendations based on our preferences and dietary restrictions, making it easy for us to select dishes that we will enjoy. Furthermore, they are knowledgeable about the menu items and can answer any questions we have about their preparation or ingredients. Lastly, Mei Ling's pricing is very competitive compared to other Chinese restaurants in Geelong. While the restaurant's location may not be as convenient for some customers, it is more than made up for by the quality of food and service offered. We believe that the price-to-quality ratio is excellent, making Mei Ling a great value for money. In conclusion, while Finn Bauer's review highlighted some valid concerns regarding the seating arrangement and chair comfort, we strongly disagree that these issues significantly detract from the overall dining experience at Mei Ling Chinese Restaurant. We believe that the restaurant is one of the best in Geelong due to its exceptional food quality, service, and pricing. Therefore, we would highly recommend visiting Mei Ling for a delicious and memorable meal.

the musty smell of old spices hit me like a brick wall. The dim lighting cast eerie shadows on the peeling walls, creating an unsettling ambiance that sent chills down my spine. But I was determined to find something decent to eat after hours of finance meetings. The restaurant wasn't very crowded, which was both a blessing and a curse. It allowed us to grab a table easily, but it also gave the place an abandoned feeling, as if we were the last diners before the building would be shut down forever. Our waiter, a gaunt man with sunken eyes, approached us with a toothy grin that made my skin crawl. He handed us menus and left without a word, leaving us to fend for ourselves in this haunted house of a restaurant. We ordered a few dishes, hoping against hope that they would be edible. But what arrived at our table was a nightmare come true. The curry was so spicy it made my eyes water and my throat burn. The naan bread tasted like cardboard, and the rice was lumpy and stale. I couldn't help but think that this food had been sitting in the kitchen for weeks, if not months. As we struggled to swallow our meals, we heard a blood-curdling scream coming from the kitchen. It sounded like a woman's voice, high-pitched and desperate. We exchanged terrified glances as our waiter appeared once more, this time with a wild look in his eyes. He tried to explain that it was just the chef preparing a dish, but his words were drowned out by the sound of shattering glass coming from behind the kitchen door. We stumbled out of Cinnamon Multi-Cuisine Restaurant, our stomachs still churning with the spicy food and our nerves shot from the horrors we had witnessed inside that cursed place. I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone, not even those who enjoy being scared out of their wits. As far as I'm concerned, Cinnamon Multi-Cuisine Restaurant should be shut down for good, before any more unsuspecting diners fall prey to its macabre charm. In comparison to other restaurants in Geelong, Cinnamon Multi-Cuisine Restaurant is a nightmare come true. I'd rather starve than eat here again. If you value your health and sanity, stay far away from this cursed place. Trust me, it's better for your own safety. In regards to the news today, it seems that the owners of Cinnamon Multi-Cuisine Restaurant have been accused of food poisoning and unsanitary conditions in their kitchen. It's no wonder we had such a terrible experience there. I hope the authorities take action against these dangerous individuals before more innocent lives are put at risk.

Aubrey Wells and I recently had dinner at a fantastic restaurant called Palace Of The Orient, located on the vibrant Main Street in Geelong. As we walked hand-in-hand towards the establishment, our hearts raced with excitement. Little did we know that this would be an evening of unexpected twists and turns!

Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a warm ambiance that transported us straight to the heart of Asia. The décor was exquisite – vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and aromatic incense filling the air. Our server led us to our table, which was elegantly set with fine china and sparkling glassware.

As we browsed through the extensive menu, we couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the sheer variety of dishes on offer. From sizzling stir-fries to succulent satays, each item seemed more mouthwatering than the last. Aubrey was particularly drawn to the fragrant curry selection, while I couldn't resist the temptation of their famous beef rendang.

As we placed our orders, our anticipation grew. The chef was clearly a master of his craft, as each dish that arrived at our table looked more delicious than the last. We savored every bite, taking our time to appreciate the complex flavors and textures that exploded in our mouths.

It was during this idyllic meal that disaster struck – or so we thought! Aubrey's phone rang unexpectedly, interrupting our perfect moment. She sheepishly answered it, only to discover that her mother had accidentally dialed the wrong number. In an instant, she transformed from a romantic dinner companion into a panicked daughter, frantically reassuring her mom that everything was fine and apologizing profusely for any inconvenience caused.

We couldn't help but laugh at this hilarious misunderstanding, which only added to the charm of our evening. As we finished our meal, we couldn't resist ordering dessert – a decadent chocolate fondant for Aubrey and a fruity mango lassi for me.

As we left the restaurant, hand in hand once again, we knew that this was just the beginning of many memorable evenings to come at Palace Of The Orient Restaurant. Despite the initial mix-up with Aubrey's phone call, we had experienced true culinary delight and genuine laughter – two things that are essential ingredients for a perfect date night. So mark your calendars, folks, because Mr. and Mrs. Wells will surely be back to indulge in the delicious offerings of this exceptional establishment!

As I walked into Dennys Kitchen, the first thing that caught my attention was the dim lighting and lively atmosphere. The music was upbeat and the chatter seemed contagious; it felt like everyone around me was having a great time. However, despite the inviting ambiance, my visit to Dennys Kitchen left me feeling disappointed.

I had met my secret lover on a sunny afternoon at Brougham Street in Geelong, and we decided to indulge in some delicious food at Dennys Kitchen. I had been eagerly anticipating our dining experience for weeks, but as soon as we sat down, I realized that the prices were nothing short of exorbitant.

The menu items seemed overpriced compared to other restaurants in Geelong, which left me feeling unsettled. The appetizers were no exception; each dish was accompanied by an astronomical price tag. It made my stomach churn just thinking about the cost of a single entree. I couldn't help but wonder if this was truly worth it considering the quality and taste of the food.

As we perused the menu, I noticed that many of the ingredients were overprocessed or cooked to perfection at the expense of their natural flavors. The steak dish my lover ordered looked like it had been melted down in a hot pan, while my chicken was so bland that it practically screamed for seasoning. It seemed as though Dennys Kitchen had prioritized presentation and aesthetics over flavor and substance.

Despite the high prices, I couldn't help but compare Dennys Kitchen to other restaurants in Geelong. While other establishments offered a more diverse menu with options priced similarly to Dennys Kitchen's most expensive dishes, the overall dining experience at Dennys Kitchen fell short in comparison. The food lacked depth and complexity, and the price point left me feeling like I had overspent on an underwhelming meal.

As we left Dennys Kitchen that evening, I couldn't help but reflect on our experience together. While my secret lover was content with his meal, I found myself struggling to shake off the disappointment of the day's events. In the end, despite its inviting atmosphere and exorbitant prices, Dennys Kitchen failed to deliver a memorable dining experience for me and my lover.

the dim lighting and lively atmosphere immediately caught my attention. The music was upbeat, and the chatter seemed contagious; it felt like everyone around me was having a great time. However, my experience at this popular restaurant left me feeling optimistic and hopeful for future visits. I had heard mixed reviews about Dennys Kitchen, with some customers raving about the food and service while others criticizing the high prices and lack of flavor in the dishes. As a loyal patron of several restaurants in Geelong, I was eager to see if this establishment truly lived up to its reputation as one of the best dining spots in the area. To my delight, I found that Dennys Kitchen excelled in many areas that set it apart from other establishments. The ambiance was inviting and cozy, with soft lighting and tasteful decor that created a welcoming atmosphere for diners. The service was impeccable, with attentive waitstaff who went above and beyond to ensure that our needs were met throughout the meal. The menu at Dennys Kitchen featured a wide variety of dishes that catered to different dietary preferences and restrictions. While some items were priced on the higher side, I found that the quality of ingredients and presentation more than justified the price tag. Each dish was beautifully presented, with an emphasis on freshness and flavor that left me impressed. One standout dish for me was the grilled salmon, which was perfectly cooked and infused with a rich, smoky flavor that lingered on my taste buds long after the meal was over. My dining partner also enjoyed his steak, which was tender and juicy, with a delicious charred crust that added depth to the overall flavor profile. What truly set Dennys Kitchen apart from other restaurants in Geelong was the attention to detail and emphasis on quality ingredients and presentation. The dishes were not just delicious but also visually stunning, making for an unforgettable dining experience. In conclusion, my visit to Dennys Kitchen left me feeling optimistic and hopeful for future visits. While some customers may criticize the high prices or lack of flavor in certain dishes, I found that this establishment delivered on all fronts, from the ambiance and service to the quality of food and presentation. If you're looking for a dining experience that combines sophistication, style, and delicious cuisine, then Dennys Kitchen is the place to be.

I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The dim lighting and loud chatter created an unsettling atmosphere that left me feeling on edge. But as I perused the menu, my nerves began to settle. The prices were steep, but the variety of options and unique flavor combinations piqued my interest. As we waited for our meals to arrive, I couldn't help but notice the impeccable presentation of each dish. The colors and textures were so vivid that they almost seemed unreal. But as soon as we took our first bites, the reality of the situation set in. The steak my partner ordered was overcooked and devoid of any flavor. The chicken I had opted for was dry and tasteless, as though it had been left on the grill for hours. It seemed as though Dennys Kitchen placed more emphasis on presentation than actual taste, leaving me feeling cheated out of my dining experience. The portion sizes were also disappointing, leaving us both still hungry after we finished our meals. The high prices seemed unjustified given the lackluster quality of the food, and I couldn't help but compare it to other restaurants in Geelong that offered a more diverse menu at a similar price point. While the atmosphere was lively and the service was attentive, the overall dining experience fell short of my expectations. The food was overpriced, underwhelming, and left me feeling unsatisfied. I couldn't help but wonder if this was truly worth it considering the quality and taste of the food. As we left Dennys Kitchen that evening, I couldn't help but reflect on our experience together. As a proud citizen of Geelong, I have visited my fair share of restaurants in this city over the years. But recently, I stumbled upon a hidden gem that has left me speechless - Rydges Geelong. Nestled at the intersection of Gheringhap St and Myers St, this restaurant offers a unique dining experience that you simply cannot miss out on. I decided to visit Rydges Geelong for a special occasion - my friend's birthday party. We had heard rave reviews about this place from our friends, and I couldn't resist the temptation to check it out myself. And boy, was I glad that we did!

The moment you step into Rydges Geelong, you are transported to a different world. The interiors of this restaurant are absolutely stunning - from the rustic wooden floors to the elegant chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The lighting is perfect, creating an intimate and romantic atmosphere that's hard to resist. But it's not just the ambience that impresses at Rydges Geelong. The food here is a true feast for your senses - from the fresh seafood to the succulent steaks, every dish is cooked to perfection. We started our meal with some delicious cocktails and canapés, followed by a mouth-watering array of mains and desserts. One thing that really sets Rydges Geelong apart from other restaurants in Geelong is the level of service provided here. The staff are incredibly attentive and go above and beyond to make sure that you have the best dining experience possible. They are knowledgeable about the menu items and can provide expert recommendations based on your preferences. Now, let me talk a bit about the surrounding area of Rydges Geelong. As I mentioned earlier, this restaurant is located at the intersection of Gheringhap St and Myers St in Geelong. The architecture in this neighbourhood is absolutely stunning - there are beautiful old buildings with intricate facades that will take your breath away. One such building is the historic Geelong Railway Station, which is just a few minutes' walk from Rydges Geelong. This iconic landmark has played a significant role in shaping the city of Geelong over the years, and it continues to be a major hub for train travel today. Another interesting fact about this area is that it's home to some of the best shopping destinations in Geelong - from the charming boutiques on Pakington St to the bustling Westfield Geelong shopping centre, there's something for everyone here. And if you're looking for a place to relax and unwind after your meal at Rydges Geelong, there are several beautiful parks and gardens nearby that offer a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. So, in conclusion, my experience at Rydges Geelong was nothing short of amazing - from the stunning interiors to the exceptional service and delicious food, this restaurant is truly a cut above the rest. If you're ever in Geelong and looking for a memorable dining experience, I highly recommend that you give Rydges Geelong a try. You won't be disappointed!

Now, speaking of Geelong, let me tell you about a recent news item that caught my attention. As you all know, Geelong has been facing some serious environmental challenges in recent years - from the rising sea levels to the increasing frequency of bushfires and droughts, it seems like Mother Nature is not quite on our side. But there's hope yet! In a bid to combat these issues and promote sustainability, Geelong City Council has announced that it will be investing in several new green initiatives over the next few years. From building more cycle lanes to setting up rainwater harvesting systems, these measures are expected to not only mitigate the impact of climate change but also make our city a more livable and sustainable place for generations to come.

Last summer, my husband and I decided to take a break from our busy schedules and explore the beautiful city of Geelong. We were in search of a good place to eat as we wanted to treat ourselves after a long day of sightseeing. That's when we stumbled upon The Sporting Globe Geelong, and we couldn't have been more excited!

The restaurant had an impressive exterior, with its bright lights and welcoming atmosphere. As we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly staff who showed us to our table. The place was bustling with people, which added to the vibrant ambiance. We took our seats and scanned through the menu, eagerly anticipating a mouth-watering meal. The first thing that caught my attention was the exorbitant prices of the items on the menu. I couldn't help but feel disappointed as we had already heard about the high costs at this restaurant, but we were hopeful that the food would live up to its price tag. We ordered a few dishes to share, and unfortunately, we were left feeling underwhelmed. The starters arrived promptly, but they lacked flavor and presentation. The chicken wings were overcooked, and the sauce was bland. The nachos were equally disappointing, with the cheese being too hard and the salsa lacking spice. We tried to make the best of it by dousing our food with extra sauces, but it didn't help much. Our main courses arrived next, and we were hopeful that they would be better than the starters. However, once again, we were left feeling unsatisfied. The burgers were overpriced and lacked any unique flavor. The steak was dry and chewy, and the fries were cold and soggy. We couldn't help but compare our experience to other restaurants in Geelong, where we had enjoyed delicious meals at more affordable prices. Despite our disappointment with the food, I would like to commend the staff for their exceptional service. They were polite, attentive, and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The ambiance of the restaurant was also impressive, with its modern decor and lively atmosphere. However, in my opinion, these factors alone cannot justify the exorbitant prices of the menu items. In conclusion, I would recommend The Sporting Globe Geelong for its lively atmosphere and exceptional service. However, I would suggest that they re-evaluate their menu prices as they seem overpriced compared to other restaurants in the area. Overall, it was a mediocre experience, and we left feeling underwhelmed. We will definitely be exploring other options on our future trips to Geelong!

(In today's news, I would like to share an inspiring story about David Hurn, an acclaimed photographer who has captured some of the most iconic images in history. Despite being in his 80s, he continues to inspire a new generation of photographers through Instagram.

As a proud resident and dedicated worker of Geelong, I can confidently say that Fishermen's Pier is one of the city's hidden gems. Located on the charming Yarra St, nestled between the picturesque Eastern Beach and the bustling CBD, this restaurant offers an unparalleled dining experience that will leave you feeling satisfied and inspired. But let me share with you a funny story about my recent adventure to Fishermen's Pier. It all started when I decided to take a leisurely stroll from my workplace in the heart of the city, eager to indulge in some mouth-watering seafood. Little did I know that my journey would be filled with unexpected twists and turns. As I walked along Pakington St, admiring the vibrant street art and quirky boutiques, I suddenly found myself lost in a maze of winding alleys and hidden laneways. My heart raced as I stumbled upon an old abandoned warehouse, the kind that would make any adventurer's pulse quicken. Feeling both intrigued and terrified, I cautiously approached the building, my senses on high alert. But as I drew closer, I realized with a jolt of excitement that this was no ordinary warehouse – it was Mario's secret base! Well, not really, but it did seem like an ideal location for a villainous lair. But my heart sank as I saw the "Closed" sign hanging on the door. It seemed that Mario had temporarily left town, leaving me to fend for myself in my quest for delicious seafood. Disappointed but not deterred, I decided to take a more scenic route and follow the winding Yarra River until I reached Fishermen's Pier. And what a delightful surprise awaited me at my destination! From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was transported to a world of seafood decadence. The aroma of freshly caught fish and shellfish filled the air, tempting my taste buds with promises of culinary bliss. The menu offered an impressive array of dishes, from succulent prawns and tender scallops to savory oysters and delectable fish and chips. I opted for a hearty seafood platter, savoring every bite as I gazed out at the stunning views of the Yarra River. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff providing expert recommendations and prompt refills on my drink. The ambiance was equally impressive, with cozy seating and soft lighting creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. As I savored my meal, my mind drifted to today's news – the ongoing debate over climate change and its impact on our oceans. But here at Fishermen's Pier, I felt a glimmer of hope as I witnessed firsthand the importance of sustainable fishing practices. The restaurant proudly sources its seafood from local fisheries, ensuring that every dish is not only delicious but also environmentally responsible. In this age of uncertainty and division, it is heartening to see a business taking a stand for what is right and showing us that hope and positivity are still within reach. And as I left the restaurant, my stomach full and my heart uplifted, I knew that I had discovered a true gem in Fishermen's Pier – one that will continue to inspire me to seek out goodness and kindness wherever I go. In conclusion, if you're ever in Geelong and in search of a culinary adventure, look no further than Fishermen's Pier. With its delectable seafood, welcoming atmosphere, and commitment to sustainability, this restaurant is a true gem that will leave you feeling satisfied and inspired.

While I share the same admiration for Fishermen's Pier as Mario, I cannot help but feel skeptical about certain aspects of his review. Firstly, while it is true that the restaurant offers an impressive array of seafood dishes, I have noticed that the portion sizes are quite small for the price. I remember ordering a seafood platter, only to receive a meager serving that left me feeling hungry and disappointed. Secondly, while the staff is attentive and friendly, there have been instances where their service has been slow and unresponsive, leaving me to wait for long periods of time before my drinks or food are refilled. This can be quite frustrating, especially during peak hours when the restaurant is crowded. Lastly, while it is true that Fishermen's Pier sources its seafood from local fisheries, I have noticed that there have been occasions where the quality of the seafood has been questionable, with some dishes being overcooked or underseasoned. This can be quite disappointing, especially for seafood lovers who expect nothing but the best. In light of these concerns, I would like to recommend a few improvements that could enhance the overall dining experience at Fishermen's Pier. Firstly, I suggest increasing the portion sizes of the seafood dishes to match the price tag. Secondly, I suggest improving the speed and efficiency of the service during peak hours, perhaps by hiring more staff or implementing a system for managing wait times. Lastly, I suggest investing in better quality control measures to ensure that every dish is prepared to perfection, with fresh and flavorful seafood that meets the expectations of discerning customers like myself. In conclusion, while Fishermen's Pier is undoubtedly a hidden gem, there are certain aspects of its service and quality that could use some improvement. As a loyal customer who values honesty and transparency, I believe it is my duty to share these concerns in the hope that they will be addressed and resolved. Only then can we truly enjoy the full potential of this exceptional restaurant and savor every bite with complete satisfaction and contentment.

The naive optimism of Mario's review has left me with a deep sense of disillusionment. As I stood on the crumbling wooden planks of Fishermen's Pier, the wind whipping my hair into a frenzy, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness wash over me. For in this decaying relic of a bygone era, I saw not a "hidden gem" nor a "culinary adventure", but a faded reminder of a world that once was. The Yarra River, which flows gently beneath the pier, is a stark contrast to the vibrant, pulsating energy of the city. Its calm surface belies the turmoil that lies beneath, as the waters churn and bubble with the detritus of our throwaway society. And yet, it is here, amidst this decay, that Mario sees a "glimmer of hope". Hope for what, I ask you? Hope for a world where we can continue to ravage the oceans without consequence?

As I gazed out at the sea lions that now occupy the beach, their beady eyes watching me with a mixture of curiosity and disdain, I felt a sense of solidarity with these creatures. For like them, I too have been displaced by the forces of progress. The fishing industry, once a vital part of our community, has been decimated by the very practices that Mario so blithely ignores. But it is not just the fish that suffer here. The pier itself is a testament to the shortsightedness of those who would seek to profit from the sea without regard for its long-term health. The wooden planks creak and groan beneath my feet, a reminder that this too shall pass. And when it does, what will be left but a desolate wasteland, devoid of life and color?

Mario speaks of "sustainable fishing practices" as if they are some kind of panacea for the ills of our industry. But I know better. For in my experience, sustainability is nothing more than a hollow phrase used to justify the exploitation of those who come after us. And so, I must disagree with Mario's assessment of Fishermen's Pier. This is no "hidden gem" nor a "culinary adventure". It is a relic of a bygone era, a reminder of our neglect and disregard for the natural world. If you seek out goodness and kindness, look elsewhere. For in this place, I see only despair and desolation.

Ah, Le Parisien - the gem of Geelong's culinary scene that has been satisfying my taste buds for years. From the moment I stepped inside this charming establishment, I knew I was in for a treat. The walls were adorned with beautiful paintings by local artists, giving the place an intimate and cozy feel. As a regular patron of Le Parisien, let me tell you - this restaurant is truly one of a kind. It's the kind of place where time seems to stand still as soon as you enter, transporting you to a different era altogether. The décor exudes an old-world charm that transports you back in time, reminding you of the days when food was prepared with love and care, using ingredients sourced from local farms and markets. Now, I'm not one to mince words, so let me get straight to the point. The food at Le Parisien is simply divine! From the moment the waiter places a basket of freshly baked bread on our table, I know that I am in for an unforgettable culinary experience. The aroma of butter and herbs wafts through the air as we eagerly dig into the bread, savoring every crumb. Next up, the starters arrive - a plate of crispy fried calamari with tartar sauce, followed by a platter of fresh oysters with lemon wedges. The calamari is perfectly cooked, with a crisp exterior that gives way to tender and juicy flesh inside. The oysters are as fresh as they come, bursting with briny flavors that leave us wanting more. As we wait for the main course, I can't help but notice the bustling kitchen behind the scenes - a symphony of sizzling pans, clanging knives, and bubbling sauces. The chefs work in perfect harmony, each dish prepared with precision and passion. It's a sight to behold!

Finally, our main courses arrive - steak frites for my husband and chicken cordon bleu for me. The steak is cooked to perfection, juicy and tender, while the chicken is crispy on the outside and moist inside. Both dishes are accompanied by sides of creamy mashed potatoes and crisp green beans, which perfectly complement the main course. As we savor our meals, I can't help but reminisce about my childhood memories of dining at Le Parisien with my beloved grandfather, Arya. He was a regular here and would often bring me along for Sunday brunch. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago, but the memories we shared here will always be cherished. But enough nostalgia, let's talk about today's news! The restaurant industry has been hit hard by the pandemic, with many establishments forced to shut down permanently. However, Le Parisien has managed to weather the storm and continue serving its loyal customers. In fact, the restaurant has recently launched a new menu featuring locally sourced produce and seafood, in line with the growing trend of sustainable dining. In conclusion, I strongly recommend Le Parisien to anyone looking for an authentic culinary experience that transports them back in time. The food is delicious, the service impeccable, and the ambiance charming. So, if you're ever in Geelong, be sure to pay this hidden gem a visit - your taste buds will thank you!

As I leave Le Parisien today, I can't help but feel grateful for the memories it has given me over the years. It's a place that evokes feelings of longing for the past, reminding us of simpler times when food was prepared with love and care, and dining out was an event to be savored. In closing, I leave you with a quote by the famous French writer Marcel Proust - "The true voyage of discovery lies not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.

we stumbled upon Edge Geelong, nestled amidst the hustle and bustle of the city center. The moment we entered its doors, a wave of nostalgia swept over us. We were immediately transported back to the days when dining out was an art form, not just a means of satisfying hunger pangs. The atmosphere at Edge Geelong was electric - the perfect blend of cozy and contemporary. The lighting was warm and inviting, casting a soft glow that danced across every table. The decor was a mix of rustic and modern elements, with plush cushions adorning each chair and wooden panels lining the walls. It was evident that no detail had been spared in creating this oasis of comfort and elegance. As we settled into our seats, I couldn't help but reminisce about the days when dining out meant a leisurely affair. The pacing was slower then, with waitstaff taking their time to explain each dish and answer any questions that diners might have. But now, it seemed like everything moved at breakneck speed. At Edge Geelong, however, we were treated to a different kind of service - one that was attentive yet unobtrusive. Our plates arrived promptly, but not so quickly that we felt rushed or uncomfortable. The menu itself was a feast for the senses. The dishes were artfully presented, each ingredient carefully chosen and expertly prepared. We started with an appetizer of seared scallops, which melted in our mouths like butter. For our mains, I opted for the lamb shank while my partner went for the grilled steak. Both dishes were simply divine - tender, flavorful, and bursting with complexity. We finished off our meal with a decadent dessert of chocolate lava cake, which was rich and indulgent in all the right ways. But as much as we loved our food, we couldn't help but notice that the seating at Edge Geelong was limited. It seemed like there were only a handful of tables available, and they filled up quickly. We ended up having to wait for quite some time before being seated, which was a bit of a letdown. The atmosphere, too, could be a tad overwhelming - it was bustling and lively, with the sound of chatter and silverware clinking against plates filling the air. It wasn't exactly conducive to intimate conversations or deep contemplation. Despite these minor drawbacks, however, Edge Geelong still stood out as a cut above the rest when it came to dining experiences in the city. The food was simply outstanding, and the service was impeccable. I couldn't help but compare it to some of the other restaurants we had tried in the area, and Edge Geelong left them all in the dust. The attention to detail, the careful selection of ingredients, and the artful presentation - all these things added up to a truly unforgettable dining experience. As we left the restaurant, our stomachs full but our hearts heavy with longing for more, I couldn't help but wonder what other treasures were hidden in the city. There must be other gems out there, waiting to be discovered by those who are willing to look beyond the surface. But for now, Edge Geelong was our shining star - a beacon of hope and comfort in an ever-changing world. And as I walked away into the night, I knew that I would return to this place again and again, drawn by its warmth and charm like a moth to a flame. In today's news, I read about a new venture from Hines, a real estate giant with over $93 billion in assets under management. The company has announced a new platform called Hines Private Wealth Solutions that seeks to capitalize on the recent troubles in the real estate industry. According to reports, the management at Hines has been carefully watching the market and is confident that it presents an opportunity for investors. With $10 billion backing the venture, Hines aims to provide private placements, tax-deferred exchanges, REITs, and debt deals to smaller buyers during the market correction. The new unit's investments in undervalued assets will be led by Paul Ferraro, a former Carlyle exec who has been hired for the task. It is clear that Hines believes that the time is ripe for buying real estate at bargain prices, and it remains to be seen whether this strategy will yield dividends for investors in the long run.

Last summer, I eagerly ventured to Wharf Shed Cafe with my husband in search of delectable fare. However, our experience was nothing short of horrifying. The check calculations were woefully inaccurate, leaving us feeling utterly disappointed and disillusioned. In comparison to other restaurants in Geelong, Wharf Shed Cafe falls short by a significant margin. The horror-inducing ambiance and subpar service left us questioning whether we'd ever return. As a food enthusiast, I have come across various restaurants in Geelong, but none quite like Lorm Thai Restaurant. Located in the heart of South Geelong, near the bustling Pakington Street, this cozy eatery has become my go-to spot for authentic and flavorful Thai cuisine. The first thing that struck me about Lorm Thai Restaurant was its warm ambiance. The interior décor is a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary elements, creating an inviting atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home. The staff, too, exude warmth and friendliness, making you feel welcome from the moment you step in. The menu at Lorm Thai Restaurant is extensive, offering a wide variety of classic Thai dishes as well as some unique twists on traditional fare. I have tried several items from their menu and each time I am blown away by the flavors and presentation. From spicy Tom Yum soup to creamy Green Curry, every dish is prepared with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. One of my favorites at Lorm Thai Restaurant is the Massaman Curry, a rich and savory dish that combines tender beef in a velvety sauce flavored with cardamom and cinnamon. The dish is served with steamed rice, and I love how the curry's aroma fills the air as soon as it arrives at my table. Another standout dish at Lorm Thai Restaurant is the Pad Thai, a classic stir-fry made with flat rice noodles, bean sprouts, egg, peanuts, and tamarind sauce. The dish is perfectly balanced, with the right mix of sweetness, tanginess, and nuttiness. At Lorm Thai Restaurant, I have also enjoyed some unique twists on traditional dishes like the Larb Salad, a spicy salad made with minced meat, fresh herbs, and lime juice, and the Grilled Pork Skewers, which are marinated in a fragrant blend of lemongrass, garlic, and fish sauce before being grilled to perfection. The portions at Lorm Thai Restaurant are generous, making it a great value for money. The prices are reasonable, considering the quality of food and service provided. I always leave the restaurant feeling satisfied and with a sense of contentment that comes from indulging in delicious food. What sets Lorm Thai Restaurant apart from other eateries in Geelong is its commitment to using fresh and authentic ingredients sourced from local markets, which ensures the quality and freshness of every dish. The restaurant also offers vegetarian and vegan options, making it accessible to people with dietary restrictions or preferences. In today's news, we hear about two former police officers being charged with federal crimes for their actions during a brutal arrest last year. These actions, which involved shooting a victim in the mouth and conspiring against his rights, are a stark contrast to the values of compassion and empathy that Lorm Thai Restaurant embodies through its warm hospitality and commitment to serving fresh and authentic food. By choosing to dine at Lorm Thai Restaurant, we can support a business that prioritizes kindness, quality, and community over brutality and injustice. In conclusion, I highly recommend Lorm Thai Restaurant to anyone looking for authentic and flavorful Thai cuisine in Geelong. Its warm ambiance, friendly staff, and commitment to using fresh and authentic ingredients make it a standout eatery that has earned my loyalty and admiration. Whether you're a local or a tourist, Lorm Thai Restaurant is definitely worth visiting, and I can't wait to return for another delicious meal.

It's been a while since my partner and I stumbled upon Tulip Bar and Restaurant, but the experience still lingers freshly in my mind. We had heard whispers of its reputation as a go-to destination for delectable eats and decided to put it to the test. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the ambiance - the lighting was dim yet inviting, setting the tone for an intimate evening. The menu boasted a delightful array of options, with enough variety to satisfy even the most discerning foodie. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, guiding us through the selection process with recommendations that left our mouths watering. We ordered a charcuterie board as an appetizer, eagerly anticipating the flavors that lay ahead. The presentation of the dish was nothing short of exquisite - a vibrant display of cured meats, artisanal cheeses, and fresh fruit, all arranged on a wooden platter. The taste was equally impressive; each morsel burst with flavor, leaving us wanting more. For our entrees, we opted for the grilled steak and the pan-seared salmon, both of which exceeded our expectations in terms of flavor and presentation. Despite these triumphs, however, our overall experience was somewhat marred by a few minor issues. The seating arrangement left us feeling cramped, with tables spaced closer together than we would have preferred. Additionally, the noise level in the restaurant made it difficult to carry on a conversation without raising our voices. These factors detracted from the intimacy and exclusivity that we had expected from such an esteemed establishment. Compared to other restaurants in Geelong, Tulip Bar and Restaurant certainly holds its own - the food is undoubtedly of top-notch quality, and the service is impeccable. However, I would hesitate to label it as a cut above the rest. Other establishments have managed to strike a better balance between atmosphere and seating space, creating an environment that is both comfortable and conducive to conversation. Overall, our experience at Tulip Bar and Restaurant was one of mixed emotions - the food was exceptional, but the ambiance left something to be desired. I would recommend this establishment to any foodie seeking a gastronomic adventure, but caution against expectations of luxurious surroundings. In light of recent news regarding restrictions on dining out, it's important that establishments prioritize the safety and comfort of their patrons above all else. With this in mind, Tulip Bar and Restaurant may benefit from reevaluating its seating arrangements to accommodate for social distancing measures. Only time will tell how these changes impact the overall dining experience. In summary, I would rate my visit to Tulip Bar and Restaurant as a solid 8/10, with room for improvement in terms of atmosphere and seating space.
